TOP COAT FINISHES. Awlgrip topside finishing systems provide a deep gloss in a tough exterior topcoat. The original formula is Awlgrip polyester urethane topcoat which is time tested and still our most common product. But we also spray Awlgrip SE (Special Effects) which is a newer base coat / clearcoat system. Awlgrip SE has a wide color selection and includes metallic in it colorline up. Awlgrip SE is a fast drying base coat which is complemented with a high gloss clear such as Awlgrip HDT clear or AwlCraft 3000 clear.
PRIMERS. The real workhorse of the Awlgrip paint scheme are the primers and fairing compounds which provide the base for a quality topcoat. The primer and fairing layers in an Awlgrip paint job makeup 90% of the labor and effort of a typical Awlgrip paint project. We use the Max Car CF primer and the RP primer for metal substrates. The Hullgard primer is an excellent base for AwlFair fairing compounds. The High Build primer is ideal for filling and final fairing. And we end up with the 545 finish primer which is a sealing primer and is the last step before the topcoats are sprayed.
